Induction hardening of large rings and gears

ENRX delivers advanced induction hardening solutions for large rings, gears, and bearing components. Our technology ensures fast, precise, and repeatable results—eliminating soft zones while reducing energy use, distortion, and total production costs.Lead text

Why induction is the smarter choice

Seamless induction hardening is a proven alternative to thermo-chemical processes, delivering faster cycle times and superior control.

Key benefits:

  • Short cycle times: Hardening completed in minutes instead of days
  • Lower production costs: Reduced processing, logistics, and energy consumption
  • Minimal distortion: Localized heating minimizes post-processing
  • Improved cash flow: Less work-in-progress inventory
  • On-site processing: No need for external hardening facilities
  • Energy efficiency: Heat is applied only where needed
  • Production integration: Easily incorporated into automated lines

Seamless hardening without soft zones

Large rings and bearings used in demanding applications—such as wind power—require uniform hardening without seams or weak zones. ENRX delivers this through a multi-coil induction process.

Process steps:

Step 1 – Start zone heating
Two scanning coils heat the start zone. Once temperature is reached, quenching begins.

Step 2 – Controlled progression
A stationary coil pre-heats the end zone while scanning coils move around the ring.

Step 3 – Transition phase
The stationary coil withdraws as scanning coils approach the end zone.

Step 4 – Completion and quenching
Final heating is completed and quenching ensures uniform hardness across the entire ring.

Result:
✔ No seam
✔ No soft zone
✔ Consistent mechanical properties
